Chapter 18
Pillow Talk: Crisis
I lay with my head pillowed on the breast of one very sexy FBI psychic and contemplated my stripper girlfriend. Now I wasn’t actually comparing size and softness, though it was a damn near rum thing as Wellington might have said. Rather I wondered over her absence. I had asked Poison to take her out and do what he could to prevent any homicidal encounters. He said he’d already planned to and when I asked what he had planned he grinned a wicked grin and said “Shopping. Gonna get her something nice and expensive and send you the bill.”
“Good times” I choked out. But I wasn’t sweating a large credit card bill. I was sweating what Poison considered to be a pleasant shopping expedition. I had visions of a heist of Britain’s crown jewels, Miss America’s tiara or The Countess’s panties. Well nothing I could do about that now. Besides I was out on a yacht, in the beautiful waters off the coast, within miles of my secret lair in case of an urgent need of a bolt hole or a cache of weapons, naked with the girl I’d been dreaming of since I’d almost shot her.
“Penny for your thoughts?”
“Oh just considering absent friends.”
“You mean your stripper girlfriend.”
“She has a name.”
“What is it?”
“Magenta”
“Is that her real name or a stage name?”
“You know I never thought to ask.”
“Men.”
Rather than contest the point I idly sucked on her nipple. It’s often the only way I can avoid getting into an argument I can’t win.
“I know what you’re doing.”
“Mmmmm” I inquired.
“You’re trying to avoid saying something stupid.”
“Mmmm” I murmured in a tone of shocked disbelief.
“Men” she repeated to herself.
“We should talk”
“Mmm” I suckled, meaning I’m listening.
“No” and she yanked my hair pulling me away from her breast so I could see her face. “I want to talk with you actually listening to me, not being distracted by various bits of my anatomy.”
“It was only the one bit.”
“I’m sure there would have been others in time.”
“You do have some distractingly lovely bits.”
“I know. But this is important.”
“Shoot. You know not literally.”
There was a clamoring that resonated through the hull. Someone had leapt aboard our ship. I slip on the black tights over my legs and grabbed two nine millimeters hanging on a hook over the bed. I threw one to her which she caught in midair with her mind while I took a position by the hatch so I could shoot whomever came through if they turned out to be unfriendly or unfamiliar.
It turned out they were one but not the other.
“Where’s that man-stealing whore?!” rang out Magenta’s dulcet tones. I sighed deeply and forced myself to lower the pistol.”
“No, stop, don’t” Poison said softly behind her. He grinned happy malevolence, daring me to comment on their early return. Well really it wasn’t early, I had perhaps lost track of time, and you know days.
“Susan this is Magenta, my stripper girlfriend. Magenta this is Susan, the FBI agent.” I glared uselessly at Poison who whistled happily, than oddly flushed with embarrassment and looked away.
